NEW ROLE FOR ROONEY

ABOVE: Could Rooney be made captain by the end of Euro 2012?
8th February 2010

By Brian Woolnough

ENGLAND were drawn yesterday with Switzerland, Wales, Montenegro and Bulgaria in their European Championship qualifying group.

Don’t even try and guess whether it’s easy or hard for Fabio Capello and his players.

Not at this long range.

A million things happen around the England team as they head towards tournaments, as we experienced on Friday when captain John Terry was sacked.

It is never simple with England so let’s get the World Cup out of the way before even trying to think how we will do at the Euros.

Otherwise we will all end up like a certain Wally with a Brolly. One prediction: By the time England get to the finals, Wayne Rooney will be England captain.
