ANDY REIGNS ON MCCALL'S LAST PARADE

ABOVE: Stuart McCall says goodbye to the Bradford faithful at Valley Parade
8th February 2010

By Jeremy Cross

BRADFORD 0 BURY 1

Peter Jackson and Dean Windass are in the frame to take over from Stuart McCall at Bradford.

McCall, who skippered the Yorkshire club to the top-flight in 1999, will end his two-and- a-half-year stint in charge today after suffering a fourth home loss in five games.

He had threatened to walk out last summer after failing to make the play-offs but was talked round by fans.

Yet Andy Morrell’s winner for Bury was the final straw for McCall with Bradford 16th in League Two – 12 points adrift of the play-offs.

Defender Simon Ramsden admitted the players were gutted to see the former Rangers legend go.

He said: “You could see everybody give everything for him as they have done throughout the season. We’d like him to stay but that’s out of our hands.”

McCall will sit down with joint-chairman Julian Rhodes to agree a settlement on the 18 months left on his contract.

He said: “I loved being manager of this club but it’s a results-based business and they’ve not been good enough. It’s not put me off but I’ve got a good face for radio. So if anyone wants to book me I’m there.”

Ramsden said whoever is appointed will inherit a club with one of the biggest fan bases in the lower divisions.

He added: “It’s incredible to still get 10,000- 11,000 in the position we are in the league.”

Jackson, sacked by Lincoln in September, became Bradford’s youngest-ever captain after launching his career at his hometown club. Windass, 40, had two successful spells as a player at the club.

Bury are well placed for automatic promotion following victory at Valley Parade.

Alan Knill’s troops boast a five-point automatic promotion cushion but he said: “No one is getting carried away.”
