Liam Trotter says Millwall’s win over table-topping Norwich will send shockwaves through League one.

The on-loan Ipswich midfielder – who was a rock in the middle of the park – enjoyed putting an end to his bitter rivals’ eight-game winning streak.

Chris Martin had put The Canaries ahead with his curling free-kick on five minutes.

Tony Craig hauled the Lions level with his deflected effort from the edge of the box before Neil Harris glanced home a second-half header to secure the points.

Trotter said: “It was a brilliant win for us. Norwich had got 44 out of their previous 48 points so they were in great form.

“But we have just started to pick up a bit of form ourselves. This shows the rest of the League we are serious about going for the play-offs and who knows? We could even end up higher.

“We beat Brighton, Oldham and Southend and people might have thought the opposition was easy and we were expected to win.

“But this was a tough game and I don’t think many people outside of Millwall expected us to win it.”

Trotter extended his loan from The Tractor Boys until the end of the season and is expecting a flood of texts from his old pals.

“Any win is sweet,” he said. “But playing against Norwich it probably does feel a bit sweeter. I haven’t turned on my phone yet, but I am sure that when I do there will be plenty of texts from my friends in Ipswich.”

Zak Whitbread had a disappointing return to his former club after his January switch to Norwich.

The defender took his stick from the home fans in good spirits. He said: “I don’t mind that. I’ve had great times here and I respect [the fans] fully. It’s to be expected.

“There’s been some banter, a few exchanges of texts. Me asking how has he [Harris] got a two-and-a-half-year contract at 37 and I got one back saying he can’t wait to see me in yellow because it will clash with my hair.”
