TAYLOR SWIFT'S FIVE AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS

THIS time last year I tipped Taylor Swift for great things and they don’t get much greater than scooping five American Music Awards.

The country pop babe was the belle of the ball in LA on Sunday, despite being unable to attend as she’s touring the UK.

Her MTV Awards nemesis Kanye West, 32, will not be best pleased to see the 19-year-old take top honours ahead of Michael Jackson.

After pipping Jacko to the all-important Favourite Artist of The Year prize, Taylor, below, said via satellite from London: “Music has never been ultimately about competition.

“To even be mentioned in a category with Michael Jackson, who we will miss and love forever, is an unimaginable honour.”

Despite his untimely death the King of Pop still set records. His four-gong haul – including Favourite Album for Number Ones – made him the most honoured artist in the event’s history. Brother Jermaine, 54, was on hand in glittery white gloves to accept and said: “The message that Michael had will live on forever.”

Other winners included Whitney Houston, 46, for International Excellence. Green Day were Favourite Rock Artists and husband and wife Beyoncé, 28, and Jay-Z, 39, took the Favourite R&B and Favourite Rap prizes.

Besides live turns from Lady GaGa, 23, and Shakira, Alicia Keys, 28, joined Jigga for Empire State Of Mind and Kelly Clarkson, 27, performed with a string quartet.
