RYAN NELSEN BACKS SAM ALLARDYCE'S BLACKBURN INFLUENCE

ABOVE: Ryan Nelson reckons Sam Allardyce can influence Blackburn's results from his sickbed
24th November 2009

By Brendan Abbott

RYAN Nelsen reckons Sam Allardyce is such a big character he can influence Blackburn’s results from his sickbed.

Big Sam was forced to miss his side’s 2-0 derby win at former club Bolton on Sunday because he is to have minor heart surgery. Doctors have told him to rest at home before having his operation on Friday.

He is expected to miss the next two games before returning in time for Rovers’ Carling Cup quarter-final clash with Chelsea next Wednesday.

Skipper Nelsen, 32, said: “He made sure he wished us well in spirit for the Bolton game because it means that little bit extra for him.”

The New Zealand international added: “He wasn’t at the Reebok but we still played like he wanted us to play, so I suppose it shows what an impact he has had here and will continue to have.”
