UNDER-FIRE referee Martin Hansson could get the World Cup chop over his blunder in Paris.

The Swede, 38, missed France striker Thierry Henry’s double handball that ended the Republic of Ireland’s bid to reach South Africa on Wednesday.

He must wait until early next year to find out if FIFA’s referees committee will keep him on their list of officials for next summer’s finals. A FIFA spokesman said: “Whether what happened on Wednesday will have a bearing on if Mr Hansson, who is one of our senior referees, is part of the team is something the committee has to decide.

“The committee will look at how each referee has performed as a whole over a two-year period.

“A myriad of factors are involved in that process.”
