MEDICAL MOANS THAT MAKE FOR SORRY READING

DAILY STAR SUNDAY
ABOVE: No sympathy for hangover victim / Pic posed by model
28th June 2009

A DOCTOR had to apologise to a patient for not providing a sick note for a hangover.

And another had to say sorry for not believing a patient’s claim he only called him a “Paki” as his phone cut out before he finished.

They were among more than 500 cases where medical watchdog The Healthcare Commission found against GPs last year.

They even backed a pagan patient who complained about her doctor because he “oozed Christianity”.

Now Professor Steve Field, chairman of the Royal College of GPs, has urged people to think twice before making a gripe official.

He said: “Because we deal with the whole range of the public you would expect some complaints to be bizarre because they reflect the whole spectrum of the public.

“Also some patients are obviously mentally ill as well and their complaints should be treated sympathetically.

“You should remember the impact of a complaint on a GP can sometimes have a very major effect.”

The GP who fell foul of the hungover man said he was blunt as he wanted to “shock him” into positive behaviour.
